The problem with education isn’t a lack of content.

The person who designed multiple undergraduate degree programmes was expelled from school at 15. That’s not a footnote — it’s the reason Academic Method exists.
Kevin spent a decade outside the education system before returning as a mature student and eventually spending 15 years inside higher education as a Dean, Programme Leader, and Course Architect. He designed multiple accredited undergraduate degree programmes from the ground up. He worked at Dean level across faculties. He saw, from the inside, exactly how education fails — and exactly why.
The system doesn’t fail because teachers don’t care. It fails because it was never designed. It evolved. It inherited assumptions. It normalised outcomes that should never have been acceptable. Most educators teach the way they were taught. Most courses are built the way courses have always been built — backwards, starting with what the instructor knows rather than what the learner needs.
The Cinematic Connection
Alongside his career in higher education, Kevin spent a decade working in film production and visual effects — as a cinematographer, director, and post-production specialist. He learned how directors think about structure, narrative, and intention. How cinematographers frame a story. How editors shape meaning from raw material.
One day, the realisation landed: education and filmmaking use the exact same logic. A director doesn’t start with a list of shots. A film editor doesn’t begin with a sequence of clips. They start with intention — what does the protagonist need to become by the end? Education works exactly the same way. Except almost no one designs it that way.
That insight became the Cinematic Curriculum Method — and the foundation of everything Academic Method builds.
